As Kitco News’ London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) conference coverage came to an end, Daniela Cambone took to the streets of Vienna to get a glimpse at one of the world’s most beloved gold coins: The Vienna Philharmonic. Taking a tour of the Austrian Mint, Cambone had a chance to get up close and personal with the one-ounce coin and get at inside look at how it is minted. The mint’s marketing director, Andrea Lang, shared some insights on the history of the coin and how it came to be one of the most sold bullion coins around the world. “Very quickly, the Viennese Philharmonic coin became of the best sold coins worldwide as the World Gold Council said,” Lang noted. “People want to have it. Not only Austrians, but worldwide.” According to Lang, the mint currently produces about 1.4 million coins per day. Kitco News, October 29, 2015.
